22U Island Junior baseball league recap – July 17-20, 2023

(July 17) Capital District Junior Islanders prevail over Summerside Chevy’s 9-2

Chris MacDougall was the winning pitcher for Capital Junior Islanders in a 9-2 win over Summerside Chevy’s at Memorial Field on July 20.

MacDougall surrendered two runs on six hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Noah Duckworth threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Parker “Lefty” Gallant took the loss for Summerside allowing five hits and six runs over four innings, striking out three.

Caleb Waugh and MacDougall each managed two hits to lead Capital District. Jaden Hogg led the Chevy’s with two hits in two at bats.

(July 18) Stratford A’s beat Summerside Chevy’s 10-2

Summerside Chevy’s lost the lead late in a 10-2 defeat to Stratford A’s on July 18.

Ethan Smith got the win for Stratford. The righty went six and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out 12 – a league single game record.

Owen Lynch took the loss for Summerside. The hurler surrendered seven runs on five hits over five innings, striking out five.

Summerside tallied nine hits. Garrett Culleton and Kendall Burns each had multiple hits for the Chevy’s

Stratford racked up nine hits on the day. Smith and Chase Gaudette each collected multiple hits for Stratford.

(July 20) Capital District Junior Islanders beat Stratford A’s 10-4

Stratford A’s stayed in it until the end, but the Capital District Junior Islanders pulled away late in a 10-4 victory on July 20.

Right-hander Jordan Mahar picked up the win, allowing four hits and one run over three innings. Two-time playoff MVP, Gabe Penelver, threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Joel MacEachern took the loss for Stratford. The righty lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and six runs while striking out nine.

Capital District took the lead in the second inning on a Mahar RBI single. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Stratford tied things up at two when Sam MacKenzie singled scoring the tying run.

Capital District scored four runs in the seventh inning thanks to singles by Chris MacDougall and Nolan Ryan and a walk by Landon MacCallum.

Tyson Laybolt, Tyler Taylor, and Chase Gaudette all managed multiple hits for Stratford.

Outfielder Nolan Ryan went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Capital District in hits.

July 31 game recap

Game 1 – Three Rivers 8 Summerside 7
Jack MacKenzie meant business on Saturday, tallying four hits and leading Three Rivers to the win. MacKenzie tripled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the fourth and singled in the fifth.
The base paths were crowded in this high-scoring game as Three Rivers collected 14 hits and the Chevys tallied seven.
Three Rivers took an early lead in the first inning on a Lucas MacAulay single. They took
the lead for good with four runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth, Jake MacLaren singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, an error scored another run and Matthew Antle grounded out, scoring the fourth run of the inning.
MacLaren was the winning pitcher, allowing six hits and six runs while striking out four. Isaac Compton threw two innings in relief, earning the save.
Ben MacDougall took the loss, going six innings, allowing eight runs on 14 hits and striking out nine.
MacKenzie, MacLaren and Compton all managed multiple hits for the winners. Duncan Picketts and MacDougall each racked up multiple hits for the Chevys.
Game 2 – Summerside 15 Three Rivers 3
Three Rivers fell behind early and couldn’t come back in the lopsided loss. In the first inning, Chevys scored on a single by Duncan Picketts, an error, a walk by Riley Gallant, a walk by Brett Caissie, a single by Parker Gallant, and a sacrifice fly by Sam Worth.
Jayden MacLean was credited with the victory, allowing seven hits and three runs over six innings, striking out five.
MacKenzie took the loss, allowing nine runs on four hits and striking out two in an inning of work.
Morgan Crosman, Dawson McCormack, and Gallant each collected multiple hits for the Chevys. Lucas MacAulay went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Three Rivers.

July 3 Games Recap

There were four different winners in PE.I. Junior 22U Baseball League play this past weekend.The Summerside Chevys and Capital District Islanders, and Western and Three Rivers split their respective doubleheaders.

Following is the recap:

Summerside vs. Capital District
Game 1

The Islanders fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 6-2 loss on Saturday.

The Chevys scored five times in the second inning keyed by two Islander errors, a walk by Ben MacDougall and a two-run single by Jayden Mclean.

MacDougall was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out seven.
Jason Rashad took the loss, going six innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out seven.
Garrett Hebert, Patrick Young and Nolan Ryan all had hits for the Islanders.

Parker Gallant went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Chevys. Logan MacDougall led Sumerside with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with five in total.

Game 2
Capital District 10 Summerside 3

A seven-run, fourth-inning outburst helped the Islanders rout the Chevys.
Noah Duckworth, Nolan Ryan with a triple, Patrick Young and Garrett Hebert triggered the big inning with RBIs.
Chevys got on the board in the first inning on a two-run single off the bat of Duncan Picketts.

The Islanders took the lead in the third inning with two runs. Parker Gallant induced Young to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored and Hebert lined out, driving in another.
Eric Anderson was the winning pitcher, surrendering one run on four hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out three.
Dawson McCormack took the loss, allowing seven runs in three innings on three hits while striking out three.
Gallant started the game for the Chevys. He lasted three innings, allowing two hits and three runs while striking out four
Hebert, Dylan Cameron, Young, Ryan and Nick Profit all had a hit to lead the Islanders at the plate.

Three Rivers watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 6-3 loss Saturday.

Western scored twice in the first inning, thanks to RBI singles by Chandler DesRoches and Colin Gaudette.
Michael MacRae earned the win, allowing two hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six. Chase Gaudette threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Isaac Compton took the loss, allowing 11 hits and six runs over six innings, striking out six.
Gaudette, DesRoches, and Dawson Sellick all had multiple hits for Western. Jack MacKenzie, Tyson McInnis, Malcolm Crann and Compton each had a hit to lead Three Rivers.

Game 2
Three Rivers 8 Western 7

The game was tied 7-7 with Three Rivers batting in the bottom of the sixth when an error scored the game-winning run.

Western’s big inning was the fourth, with four runs sparked by singles by Dawson Sellick and Michael MacRae.
Three Rivers scored four runs in the second inning. Their rally was led by balls put in play by Jake MacLaren and Tyson McInnis, as well as a single by Isaac MacNeill, and a sacrifice fly by Jack MacKenzie.
MacKenzie, Three Rivers’ ace pitcher, allowed nine hits and six runs over four innings, striking out four.
Connor Ellsworth allowed four hits and eight runs over six innings for Western, striking out eight.
MacNeill, Malcolm Crann, Isaac Compton and MacLaren all had a hit for Three Rivers, which also tore up the base paths, as three players stole at least two bases. Compton led the way with three.
Sellick with three hits, Chase Gaudette and MacRae each racked up multiple hits for Western.

June 26 Game Updates

The Summerside Chevys swept Stratford while Three Rivers and Capital District split their games in the P.E.I. 22U Baseball League on Saturday.

Summerside 10 Stratford 0

Jayden MacLean shut down Stratford, throwing a complete game one-hitter, while the offence broke the game open in the third inning with six runs.
The outburst was keyed by hits from Kalib Snow, Ethan Beaulieu, Ben Christopher and Morgan Crosman, as well as a fielder’s choice play off the bat of Duncan Picketts.
The Chevys scored once in the first thanks to a Picketts triple.
A single by Colin Blanchard in the first inning was all the offence Stratford could muster against MacLean, who struck out six and walked none in five innings of work.
Isiah Dean took the loss, going four innings, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits and striking out three.
Crosman with three, Snow, and Beaulieu all had multiple hits for Chevys.

Game 2
Summerside 10 Stratford 0

Ben MacDougall threw his own complete-game shutout in Game 2, scattering five hits in five innings of work while striking out four.
Connor Hennessey took the loss.
The Chevys started the scoring in the first inning when Josh Myers singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.
They added four more runs in the fourth, thanks to a single by Jayden MacLean, a groundout by MacDougall, and a double by Myers.
Crosman, Myers and MacLean each managed two hits to lead the Chevys, who ran wild on the base paths with nine stolen bases. Parker Gallant had two of those steals.
Brady Storey went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Stratford.

The game was tied 1-1 with the Islanders batting in the bottom of the fifth when Gabe Penalver doubled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs to break the game open.
Three Rivers started the scoring in the first inning when Tyson McInnis singled.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Islanders tied the scored when a runner scored on Carter Melnick’s double play ball.
After Three Rivers scored in the top of the sixth, the Islanders answered with one of their own in the bottom of the inning when Malcolm Crann singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
Penalver was the winning pitcher, going seven innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out seven.
Isaac Compton took the loss, allowing eight hits and seven runs over six innings, striking out two.
Patrick Young went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Islanders offensively. Liam Laybolt was 2-for-3 for Three Rivers.

Capital District 4

The Islanders’ effort to come back from down five runs in the sixth inning came up just short, as they lost 6-4 Saturday.
They did score three times in the sixth though, thanks to a double by Elijah Hood and a single by Dylan Cameron.
Three Rivers scored on an error in the first inning, and a double by Tyson McInnis in the second inning.
Noah Stewart earned the victory, going two innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out one. Jack MacKenzie threw five innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Jason Rashad took the loss, lasting five and a third innings, allowing three hits and six runs while striking out four.
Cameron and Hood each had two hits for the Islanders.
MacKenzie led Three Rivers with two hits.

 

 

P.E.I. planning for 22-and-under baseball league this summer

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Young men will have another place to continue to play baseball this summer with the formation of a new Island league. At least four communities are planning to host teams in the Prince Edward Island 22-and-Under Baseball League. They include entries from West Prince, Summerside, Charlottetown and Kings County, with the possibilities for more.

It is the first time since 2015 the province has had a league for the age group, formerly known as junior, and league president Alf Blanchard said it fills a major gap in the province. He said there has been between 10 and 12 18-and-under teams in the province during the past three seasons.
